Solution Type Troubleshooting Sure Solution 2240738.1 : SL500 - Media Type Showing As 'UNKNOWN'
In this Document
Oracle Confidential PARTNER - Available to partners (SUN). Applies to:Sun StorageTek SL500 Modular Library SystemInformation in this document applies to any platform. PurposeHow to resolve when an SL500 is not displaying the media type. Troubleshooting StepsWhen looking in SLC or cartridge summary you find that the media type is displayed as 'UNKNOWN' Location : 0,2,11,4 This is how the media type is supposed to look. Location : 0,2,9,2
This can cause an issue when you need to know the exact media type when diagnosing certain errors. This issue is caused by the way the SL500 has been configured to read the barcode label of the tape. First, confirm the current label orientation configuration in a snapshot or library information. You will see the current configuration for both host and op panel. Example from SPLAT summary. Host Labeling: LeftJustified8 *NOTE* There is currently an issue where the SPLAT Summary is displaying the incorrect label configuration. The only way to know the real configuration for certain is to check the library settings section within the snapshot log files. Example: Label Window Host Option=Entire label You can configure the way the robot reads the label via CLI commands. In most configurations the SL500 should be set to 'left8', meaning the robot will start reading the barcode from the left until it reaches 8 characters. In this example, the SL500 has been configured to 'all' instead of 'left8' and the result is that the SL500 does not display the correct media type. Via the CLI you should set both host and op panel to 'left8'.... orientlabel <host|oppanel> | left8
Once you have configured the orientlabel of host and op panel to left8, you should now see the full media type in SLC and logs.
