SPARC M7-8
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

Each SPARC M7 Series Servers DCU is controlled by a pair of Service Processor Module to redundantly manage the DCU.
One is activelly managing the DCU and is called DCU-SPM. The other one is acting as a Standby, ready to take over the role if needed.
The number of DCUs and location of the SPMs depend on the M7 Server type.

The DCU-SPM can be identified from the ILOM target /System/DCUs/DCU_x sp_name.

When a fault is diagnosed on a Service Processor Module, the respective DCU may be reported as “OK”.
This means that /System/DCUs/DCU_X health" will NOT show health as "Service Required" even if the SPM in this DCU is faulty.

Before taking any corrective action, make sure about which component is actually flagged as faulted. Do not rely only on the /System/DCUs/DCU_x health status.

Fixed in SysFW 9.5.2.g.

Troubleshooting Steps

To confirm that an SPM is suspect and diagnosed as faulted, use :

- the Fault Management Shell

-> start -script /SP/faultmgmt/shell/
    faultmgmtsp> fmadm faulty
    faultmgmtsp> fmadm faulty -r
    faultmgmtsp> fmdump
    faultmgmtsp> fmdump -v

- the ILOM 'show faulty' command

-> show faulty

- the state of a suspect SPM should be checked using

    -> show /System/Other_Removable_Devices/Service_Processors/Service_Processor_X/Service_Processor_Module_Y health location

where X and Y can be 0 or 1.

    The health property should report “Service Required”.

To check all of the SPMs at once

    -> show -t /System/Other_Removable_Devices/Service_Processors location health
