Information in this document applies to any platform.

CAP = Cartridge Access Port
AEM = Automated Exchange Mechanism

Purpose

 Troubleshoot and resolve issue of rotational CAP's and AEM's not showing up in SLConsole after adding a rotational CAP

Troubleshooting Steps

 After adding the rotational CAP to the SL3000 and the subsequent reboot,

1. Initiate a log snapshot all.

2. Upload to the Splat tool.

3. Within the trace logs you should see the following messages.. You can search on PUZ in the filter to bring up only the rotational CAP messages. For this example we have 3 rotational caps in the SL3000.

2014-11-04T14:07:03.938,   1.0.0.0.0,    root, default,   processMgr,      0, trace, 0000, processMgr::createProcess():process started = /usr/local/bin/PuzCapMgr ()

2014-11-04T14:07:39.332,   1.0.0.0.0,    root, default,    internal,       0, trace, 3951, "Announce presence", Data=<request sequence="1"><command>announcePresence</command><parms><deviceType>capPuz</deviceType><address>1,1,1,2,0</address><size>26</size><serialNumber>HBCR  96000149</serialNumber><ecLevel>15</ecLevel><hdwCompat>2</hdwCompat><softCompat>2</softCompat><productFamilyCode>ELIB</productFamilyCode><partType>HBC   </partType><partNumber>419950201</partNumber><manfactDate>03/31/2008</manfactDate></parms></request>

2014-11-04T14:07:39.698,   1.0.0.0.0,    root, default,    internal,       0, trace, 3951, "Announce presence", Data=<request sequence="2"><command>announcePresence</command><parms><deviceType>capPuz</deviceType><address>1,1,1,1,0</address><size>26</size><serialNumber>HBCR  96000149</serialNumber><ecLevel>15</ecLevel><hdwCompat>2</hdwCompat><softCompat>2</softCompat><productFamilyCode>ELIB</productFamilyCode><partType>HBC   </partType><partNumber>419950201</partNumber><manfactDate>03/31/2008</manfactDate></parms></request>

2014-11-04T14:07:39.935,   1.0.0.0.0,    root, default,    internal,       0, trace, 3951, "Announce presence", Data=<request sequence="3"><command>announcePresence</command><parms><deviceType>capPuz</deviceType><address>1,1,2,1,0</address><size>26</size><serialNumber>HBCR  96000149</serialNumber><ecLevel>15</ecLevel><hdwCompat>2</hdwCompat><softCompat>2</softCompat><productFamilyCode>ELIB</productFamilyCode><partType>HBC   </partType><partNumber>419950201</partNumber><manfactDate>03/31/2008</manfactDate></parms></request>

and approximately 5 minutes later the following messages should appear depending on how many rotational caps installed in the library.

2014-11-04T14:12:04.693,   1.0.0.0.0,    root, default,    internal,       0, trace, 9998, "Trace Adding real puz cap object: 1,1,-8,2,0"

2014-11-04T14:12:04.817,   1.0.0.0.0,    root, default,    internal,       0, trace, 9998, "Trace Adding real puz cap object: 1,1,-14,2,0"

2014-11-04T14:12:05.021,   1.0.0.0.0,    root, default,    internal,       0, trace, 9998, "Trace Adding real puz cap object: 1,1,5,2,0"

4. If you do not see the following  "Adding real puz cap objects" you need to confirm that LED's 1, 3 and 5 are lit on the PUZ card on each CAP.

PUZ LED Indicators

5. If the PUZ LED's are not lit on the right or left side CAP's then investigate a possible cabling issue. Check connections at P310 and P311 on the PUZ cards and the daisy chained cable that interconnects them together.

6. If the PUZ LED's are lit you can do a config check via the CLI and perform a reboot and log snapshot to look for the announcement in the trace logs.

7. If the PUZ LED's are lit and you do not see the "Adding real puz cap objects" message after the announcement replace the HBCR card.
