Purpose

The purpose of this document is to explain why a Sun Ray Server (SRS) administrator maybe unable to manage the Idle Timer (i.e Poweroff time) for a Sun Ray 3 series Client (DTU) using SunRayP9.parms or SunRayP10.parms and how to resolve this.

NOTE: It is a supplement to: How To Update the Power-Off Timer for Sun Ray 3 Clients <Document 1411393.1>

Troubleshooting Steps

If the 'Power Off Timer' option within the Sun Ray 3, 3i,3+  firmware is  '0' or a numeric value (10, 20, 30 etc) the 'poweroff=xx' entry in .parms file will not be honored. This is by design but is not fully documented.

To get around this you will need to clear the 'Power Off Timer' current value. Ie. Make it blank.

Steps to change GUI's firmware 'poweroff' value

1. Using Sun Ray client's keyboard, press 'Stop m' (SUN keyboard) or 'ctrl pause m' (non SUN keyboard) to bring up the GUI menu.

2. From the main list select 'Advanced' then from next list select 'Power off Timer'.

3. Clear the value then Save.

4. Return to main menu then Exit.

While the Sun Ray client is booting, it will then read the 'poweroff' entry in /tftpboot/SunRayPx.parms (P9 = Sun Ray 3+, P10 = Sun Ray 3, 3i) on the designated firmware server.

To confirm the Sun Ray poweroff value was changed to the value in .parms.

# /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utquery -d <IP of Sun Ray> | grep -i poweroff
