Purpose

Password reset on 4500

Troubleshooting Steps

This procedure requires the 4500 to be booted into diagnostics.

For instructions on booting the system into diags see <Document 1589482.1> How to Execute Diagnostics on an NN4500 or NN3800

Please note that <Document 1589482.1> assumes that the user has the enable password and can access the shell.

If the enable password is unknown, the user will not be able to access the shell.  Instead, issue the command "show directory /code/images" in order to view the available images present within the directory.  If boot images are saved in another folder, you can use the "show directory" command with other directories.

1. boot into diags 1.04 or greater

2. password flatspin

3. Enter "dc" at prompt

4. Enter "password reset"

5. Enter "y"

6. Enter "reboot"

(results in passwords: acme (for user) and packet (for admin))

(do not enter the quotes in above procedure)

Here is an example of the expected output:

-> dc

/boot/ - Volume is OK

254951424 bytes

/code/ - Volume is OK

257408512 bytes

Note that there are 2 password modes in the system: normal mode and 'password secure mode'. Changing the password mode after resetting the password will revert the passwords, and the user will need to again reset the passwords using the procedure above

Once done, you will need to reboot the SBC and then interupt the boot sequence by pressing 'space bar' when indicated.

Press "c" to configure the boot parameters to restore previous image.

Press "@" to reboot under the old image that you restored and should be complete.
