Purpose

To provide troubleshooting steps when receiving the following warning:

[DiskControllerPCIeSlotWidth] Requires: x8 Found: x4

Troubleshooting Steps

After a reboot of a cell server or when running Exachk, you see the following WARNING from one of your cell servers:

[root@dm11cel11 tmp]# /opt/oracle.cellos/CheckHWnFWProfile
[WARNING] The hardware and firmware are not supported. See details below

[DiskControllerPCIeSlotWidth]
Requires:
x8
Found:
x4
[WARNING] The hardware and firmware are not supported. See details above

In order to determine if there is a true hardware fault:

1.  Perform a cold power cycle of the cell:

  • Shut down the cell OS
  • Remove the power cords from both power supplies
  • Wait 1 minute
  • Plug the power cords back in
  • Power up the server and cell OS

NOTE:  Please follow the steps in MOS Note Steps to shut down or reboot an Exadata storage cell without affecting ASM <Document 1188080.1> to prevent issues with ASM disks.

If this does not clear the WARNING, collect a sundiag report from the cell server - MOS Note Oracle Exadata Diagnostic Information required for Disk Failures <Document 761868.1> - and open a Service Request for review.

INTERNAL:  Please note that in SR 3-10152318977 this cold power cycle did not resolve the issue, but a reseat of the RAID card and disk cables to SAS expander did fix the problem.
