Purpose

This document describes the steps to identify the system Serial Number (SN) on an Oracle Exalytics server. The document also includes steps to identify serial numbers (SNs) for Oracle Exalytics component parts (motherboard, disk controller, inifiniband, etc.). Serial numbers may be requested by Oracle Support if you report an issue with an Oracle Exalytics server.

Troubleshooting Steps

Identify the main Exalytics system serial number using command line utility (ipmitool)

The ipmitool may be run on the Oracle Exalytics server command line when connected as the "root" user.

# ipmitool sunoem cli "show /SP system_identifier"

Once you have run the command, you will see output similar to that shown below (highlighted text indicates system serial number):

View System Serial Number Via the Integrated Lights Out Management (ILOM) console

The system serial number is also visible via the Overview page (see highlighted text below).

Identify system component serial numbers and other details using ILOM

While logged on as the "root" user, you may click the Component tab to view details for each of the Exalytics systems components. Components that may be reviewed include the motherboard, infiniband, system BIOS, network interfaces, DIMMs, etc.

Components

Component details include current state and serial number, and may also include manufacturer, part number and firmware version as applicable.
