Purpose

IBM LTO - Drive Cleaning Information

Troubleshooting Steps

Indications of when the drive needs to be cleaned:
- Drive will indicate it needs cleaning with a "C" on the SCD.
- Need for cleaning is reported via tape alert.
- Interval of cleaning is as required by drive. LTO4 requests cleaning when 12M data sets and/or 5M meters are met.
- UCC Universal Cleaning Cartridge from all media vendors has a "50 cleans" life span. The cartridge will be labeled with “Universal Cleaning Cartridge” on the top side.
- If you try to clean with an expired cleaning cartridge, A ‘7’ will display when an expired cleaning cartridge is used. Once the cartridge is removed, the display will still have a ‘C’.
- If the cleaning cartridge is placed in a drive that is not indicating a need for cleaning, the drive will still run a cleaning cycle.
