Purpose

To assist in troubleshooting issues with replication between Sun ZFS 7000 Storage appliances.

The goal is to provide advice on the types of problems encountered when replicating between appliances, and how to resolve them.

This document has been written as a resolution path. Each step giving links to other specific documents. It should be kept as a reference for any replication issue on ZFS storage appliance.

Troubleshooting Steps

Background Knowledge

The following sections in the online help section of the BUI provide background information on Remote Replication concepts and configuration:

https://<appliance IP>:215/wiki/index.php/Shares:Projects:Replication
https://<appliance IP>:215/wiki/index.php/Configuration:Services:Remote_Replication

Common Issues

Unable to successfully configure the initial replication between the source and target systems

See Document ID 1398023.1 - Unable to start a replication to a remote appliance

After successful configuration of the initial replication, subsequent updates fail

See Document ID 1399581.1 - Replication starts to a remote appliance but does not complete

There are frequent failures for a 'busy' replication schedule

See Document ID 1582913.1 - Limitation on the number of simultaneous replication jobs

Replication processing appears to be using a significant amount of filespace on the 'source' system

See Document ID 1398036.1 - Unusual amount of used space in the pool of a replication source system

The replication source system reports a 'notification cookie' issue

See Document ID 1451919.1 - Replication source node gives error "ak_notification_wait failed: remote side doesn't recognize notification cookie"

On cluster systems, each time a takeover/failover is done on the source or target, the replication fails

See Document ID 1508081.1 - Project Replication is failing while doing Active Head failover

Unable to delete replication target packages or snapshots

See Document ID 2213620.1 - Unable to delete replication target package/snapshots
