Applies to:

Oracle Communications Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) - Version DSR 7.0 and later
Tekelec

Goal

We are configuring multihomed sctp association.
Remote side (client): X.X.X.1 (primary) and X.X.X.2 (alternative).
DSR side (server): Y.Y.Y.1 (primary) and Y.Y.Y.2 (alternative).

DSR sends HEARTBEAT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT packets from alternative interface.

For example:
X.X.X.2 -> Y.Y.Y.2 SCTP 1516 HEARTBEAT
Y.Y.Y.1 -> X.X.X.2 SCTP 1516 HEARTBEAT_ACK

Remote side expects answer exactly from the same address to which it sends requests.

Solution

The fact pointed out that DSR HB-ACK is from a different source than the one HB was destined to, does not break the RFC4960 Stream Control Transmission Protocol. This is linux sctp stack behavior.
