Goal

This document describes the correct memory configuration for a M12-2 and a M12-2S

Solution

CPU/Memory configuration rules:

- Memory Size
- DIMMs:8/16/32/64GB
- 32 Slots per BB

M12-2/M12-2S: Allowed DIMM combination connected to the same CPU chip is as follows:

– No rule difference between non memory-mirror users and memory-mirror users
- 64GB memory is not used in combination with the 8GB or 16GB

DIMMs combinations installed GRP-A:   8GB/16GB   (Cannot use 64GB in combination)
                                        GRP-A:   32GB         (Can use 64GB in combination)

DIMMs combinations installed GRP-B:   8GB/16GB   (Cannot use 64GB in combination)
                                        GRP-B:   32GB         (Can use 64GB in conbination)

NOTE: In the following description, 10A-13A means 10A, 11A, 12A, 13A

– M12-2/M12-2S:
  CMUL
        – CPU#0: CMUL/MEM#00A-07A, 00B-07B

 CMUU
       – CPU#0: CMUU/MEM#00A-07A, 00B-07B

CPU/Memory configuration rule

M12-2/M12-2S: 1 CPU configuration has 16 DIMM slots.

The below image shows a 1 CPU configuration where the CMUL memory is populated

  • Bank A should be populated first (light green area)
  • Bank B next (blue area)

.

M12-2/M12-2S: 2 CPU configuration has 32 DIMM slots:

On M12-2/M12-2S, CMUU (CPU module upper) is optional
– CPU on CMUU is fixed to CMUU. To install 2nd CPU, CMUU should be mounted
– To install more than 16 DIMMs, CMUU must be mounted

This image shows a 2 CPU configuration where CMUU and CMUL memory are populated

  • CMUL should be populated first, bank A       (light green area)
  • CMUU bank A should be populated next       (yellow area)
  • CMUL bank B should be next                      (blue area)
  • CMUU bank B the last slots to be populated  (dark green area)
