Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 2379747.1 : IBM LTO7 - Dual Port Redundancy
In this Document
Applies to:IBM LTO7 Tape Drive - Version All Versions and laterStorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library - Version All Versions and later Information in this document applies to any platform. There are 2 FC ports in IBM LTO7 used by SL150 Can I configure redundancy path with 2 switches? 1 port is down and the other is activated to transfer data. If we can: ============================= 1. There are 2 FC ports, one FC port is connected to SAN1 and the other FC port is connected to SAN2. 2. By default, top drive of base module will send signal to Robot. If we could configure dual FC port, how to control robot with those 2 ports? How to configure? GoalIBM LTO7 - Information on Dual Port Redundancy. Solution1. By default both ports will be enabled on IBM LTO drives in SL150 Library, no need to buy any license. 2. Yes you can configure both port on different switch, But not to the same host it must be Different host. 3. The drive will accept commands for both port 1 and port 2 and will queue the commands, Means that the drive will execute the first command from port 1 and then will queue the command for port 2 for later when the command for port 1 is complete. 4. Only support manual path fail over. As explained above you can have the path active for port 1 and then the path inactive for port 2. If the path for port 1 fails, then you can make the path for port 1 inactive and then make the path for port 2 active. 5. Customers can use it for a manual fail over. So if the path for port 1 goes down then they can activate the path for port 2. They can also use both ports at the same time as mentioned above as long as the ports are zoned to different hosts. You can never have both ports zoned to or connected to the same host at the same time. That will cause issues and it is not supported.
You can never have both ports zoned to or connected to the same host at the same time. What should I do if the primary port is down? Customer can enable communication on port -2 at SAN switch level (Adding port -2 in active zoning) its all depends how customer will manage it at SAN switch Level. How can I activate one port and inactive the other one? It can be done at SAN switch level or log into Library Web GUI and disable Port 1 or 2. Refer to attachment for further information.
