Goal

Is there any way to restore a file that was accidentally deleted from the ZFS appliance?

Solution

If the ZFS share had snapshots enabled at the time the file was removed/deleted (or a snapshot clone created while the file existed), then yes, the file can be recovered from the snapshot or a snapshot clone.

If the filesystem was being replicated to another appliance, depending on the replication type/frequency and the creation time and deletion of the file, it may be possible to recover it from the replication target.

Otherwise, unless the data has been backed up (remotely or to tape) while the file existed, there currently is no way to recover it via the ZFS Storage Appliance - once the file has been deleted from the ZFS filesystem.
