Unlike enterprise libraries (SL8500, 3000, 500), the SL150 needs to be configured almost entirely from the library BUI to enable snmp and allow it to communicate with SDP2. This must be done before attempting to probe the library from MDVOP.

Goal

 Explain the steps needed to enable snmp and configure SL150 libraries for use with SDP2.

Solution

The process to add an SL150 to SDP2 is slightly different than the other libraries because the library does not have a command line interface. The SNMP is unable to be configured automatically by the SDP2 server; therefore it needs to be completed manually. In order to configure an SL150 for SDP2 use, the library MUST be at firmware level 2.50 or higher. Follow SL150 - How to Find Firmware Update Patches and Upgrade the StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library With Those Firmware Patches (Doc ID 1474172.1) if the library is not at 2.5 or higher, and then return to configuring the library for SDP2.

Log in to the library BUI and navigate to the snmp tab.
If SNMP has never been configured on the library, the option at the top of the page will state "Enable SNMP" as seen in the above example.

Select "Enable SNMP" and then confirm by selecting OK.

Add an SNMP user for the SL150
Version = v2c
Community Name = public

Enable SDP2: If the SL150 tape library is running firmware version 2.50 or higher, it is capable of sending diagnostic logs to SDP2 using a secure HTTPS connection. This secure connection is enabled by selecting the option Enable SDP2.

Add a Trap Recipient
Host Address = IP Address of the SDP2 server
Trap Level = 13,14,15,102
Version = v2c
Community Name = public
Note:There are no spaces between the trap levels. Also, the community name must not contain numbers, spaces or special characters

After the SNMP has been manually configured on the SL150, the library can be properly added into the SDP2 configuration.
Now the SL150 library is ready to be probed from SDP2 /MDVOP.
Please note that you still need to configure snmp from MDVOP or server will ignore snmp traps from this library. Refer to SDP2 User's Guide, "Adding an SL150 Library".
