DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS PROBLEM OVERVIEW: SPARC T7-4 Processor Filler Module (PFM) Replacement
DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc. If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.
If the system is still up and functioning, the customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS. Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system. A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
NOTE: For ALL scenarios where an AC power down or AC power cycle is required for a T7-x server, please always use the steps in doc 1571054.1 prior to physically removing AC power cables from the server.
Replace the Processor Filler Module 1. Prepare the server for service. 2. Squeeze the release latches together on the two extraction levers and pull the extraction levers out to disengage the Processor Filler Module from the server. 3. Pull the processor filler module halfway out of the server. 4. Press the levers back together, toward the center of the processor filler module. Note - This will keep the levers from getting damaged when you remove the module from the server.
5. Using two hands, completely remove the processor filler module and place the module on an antistatic mat. Caution - Do not touch the connectors at the rear of the module.
6. Insert the processor filler module into the empty module slot in the server. Note: A processor filler module can only be installed in slot 1.
7. Bring the levers together toward the center of the module and press them firmly against the module to fully seat the module back into the server. Note - The levers should click into place when the module is fully seated in the server.
8. Return the Server to operation.
