Goal

The motherboard (main system board) was replaced by HP and power restored to the server. The iLO is available, but the server not boot to the disk. Watching the server boot will go straight to NIC boot after the POST/BIOS sequence. Checking the boot order, the USB, DVD, and HDDs are all above the NIC, yet the network boot is the only option the system is trying

Solution

Since the motherboard was replaced, the BIOS settings are at their HP defaults.

UEFI is the default setup rather than Legacy BIOS.

If the system was installed with Legacy BIOS setting, this will need to be changed to allow the system to boot from the disk.

To edit the config, reboot the server while in iLO, and enter the System Configuration (default for most servers is F9 key).

From the BIOS menu, you will need to enter System Options, Advanced Options, or BIOS options depending on the ROM version. Change BIOS mode from UEFI to Legacy BIOS, and save exit with the F10 key.

The server will now reboot and load the operating system as normal.
