SolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes TASK COMPLEXITY: 0 FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS: PROBLEM OVERVIEW: An Oracle Server X7-8 Disk needs replacement WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : The server supports hot-plugging of the storage drives so a complete power down of the server is not required if your storage/OS configuration allows for a hot-plug operation.
Removing a Storage Drive 1. Prepare the server for hot service. 2. Identify the storage drive by its position, designation, and the indicators on its front panel. Storage Drive Slot Locations:- The eight storage drive slots are in the system module (SMOD) and directly accessible at the server back panel. Slots are arranged in two stacked rows of four slots and designated from right to left. To Identify the failed disk, please use the Raid controller specific commands, Use StorCli commands to identify the failed disk, To list all available disks and its status, please use the following command and identify the failed disk and its Slot location : # /opt/MegaRAID/storcli/storcli /c0/dall show
OR # /opt/MegaRAID/storcli/storcli pdlist -a0|egrep -i "slot|firmware"
If the disk is part of any redundant array, proceed with replacing the disk. No other steps required from OS 3. To unlock the storage drive handle, press the handle release button on the front of the drive. 4. To remove the drive, rotate the handle to its fully open position and pull the drive out of its slot. 5. If you are replacing the drive, continue to Install a Storage Drive. 6. If you are not replacing the drive, install a filler panel. Install a filler panel in the empty drive slot to maintain proper airflow. Perform administrative tasks to configure the server to operate without the drive.
Installing a Storage Drive 1. Prepare the server for hot service. 2. If necessary, remove the HDD filler panel from the slot. 3. Ensure that the drive handle is open. 4. Align the drive with the vacant slot so that the open handle is on the right. 5. Slide the drive into the slot and push it inward until it stops and the handle begins to close. 6. Rotate the handle to the closed position. 7. Perform administrative procedures to reconfigure the drive.

Check if all HDDs are working normal on Solaris environment. # format
