Cable, LC-to-LC Duplex
This is the Fibre Channel cable between the drive and the rear connection on the tray.

Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: Must be familiar with the SL3000 and associated tape drives.

REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: The FC cable has been determine to be defective and must be replaced.
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: The drive must be offline to the system and removed from the library.
- WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?:
Refer to the SL3000 Service Manual for complete instructions and pictures for this action.
LC-to-LC Cable Removal
To remove this cable:
1. Follow the procedures to remove the drive tray assembly (“Drive Tray Removal:All Tape Drives” on page 143).
2. Release the two captive screws (1) shown in FIGURE 2-17from the drive tray interface plate.
3. Pull the plate away from the rear of the tray and disconnect the fiber-optic cable.(1) shown in FIGURE 2-18).
4. At the front of the drive tray, remove the two screws (1) shown in FIGURE 2-19.
5. Pull off the top cover.
6. Slide out the air flow shield (1) shown in FIGURE 2-20 on page 152 above the drive.
7. Remove the four screws (1) shown in FIGURE 2-21 that attach the drive to the tray.
8. Move the HBD (or LOD) card (1) shown in FIGURE 2-22 on page 153 out of the way.
9. Disconnect the cable (2) shown in FIGURE 2-22 on page 153 at the rear of the tape drive.
10. Connect the replacement cable at the rear of the drive.
11. Move the HBD (or LOD) card to gain access to the power supply (1) shown in FIGURE 2-23.
12. Remove the five screws from the power supply.
13. Disconnect P708 (2) shown in FIGURE 2-23 from the power supply.
14. Remove the top two fan screws (1) shown in FIGURE 2-24 on page 154.
15. At the side of the drive tray, remove the screw (1) shown in FIGURE 2-25 that holds the fan tray.
16. Lift up on the fan assembly (1) shown in FIGURE 2-26 on page 155 and remove the defective cable.
17. Route the replacement cable underneath the fan assembly.
LC-to-LC Cable Replacement
To replace this cable:
1. Loosely thread in the top two screws for the fan assembly.
2. Insert the side screw for the fan assembly.
3. Tighten all three fan assembly screws.
4. Replace the power supply by loosely inserting and tightening each of the five screws.
5. After the power supply screws are set, tighten all five screws.
6. Carefully guide the drive into position, being sure that you also carefully pull rear connector of the LC cable at the same time.
7. Place the HBD (or LOD) card over the drive and reconnect P708.
8. Replace the four screws that attach the drive to the drive tray, being sure that they are correctly positioned for LTO drives (see FIGURE 2-21 on page 152).
9. At the rear of the drive tray interface plate, connect the new LC cable.
10. Carefully place the drive tray interface plate back into position and tighten the two captive screws (1) shown in FIGURE 2-17 on page 150.
11. Slide in the air flow shield.
12. Replace the top cover, being sure that the tabs are correctly within their slots (see FIGURE 2-15 on page 149).
13. Attach the cover with the two T10 screws.
14. Insert the drive into its assigned position in the drive array.
15. Follow procedures in “Drive and Drive Tray Replacement (All Drive Trays)”on page 171.
- WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?: Bring drive online to the system and verify the functionality.
