DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: CSE needs to be knowledgeable in service of the SL8500 library.,
- TIME ESTIMATE: 90 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 2
REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Elevator motor has been determine to be defective and needs replacement.
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:  If library has a service safety door, the repair can be done with the library online.  If there is no SSD, the library will need to be taken offline.
- WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?:

Elevator Motor Assembly: Removal

Note – If the optional safety door is not present, the library must be placed offline before removing and replacing the elevator motor assembly.
If the safety door is present, you can replace the motor without taking the entire library offline. However, you must read the procedure below to determine which components must be taken offline (Steps 1a and 1b).

1. If the service safety door is not present, ask the operator to place the library offline to the host.

    a. If the service safety door is present, and you wish to replace the left elevator motor, ask the operator to place the left elevator offline to StorageTek Library Console (see “Service Safety Door Verification” on page 286 if you are unfamiliar with activation of the service safety door).
    b. If the service safety door is present, and you wish to replace the right elevator motor, ask the operator to place the right elevator offline to StorageTek Library Console and place the CAPs offline to the Host/ACSLS.

2. Open the appropriate library front door (see the note “Opening Access Doors” on page 39).
3. Disconnect the motor assembly power cable (1) shown in FIGURE 1-56 on page 76 at the bulkhead connector.
4. Loosen the T15 tension assembly screw (2) shown in FIGURE 1-56 on page 76, press on the tensioner to relieve tension, then re-tighten the screw.
5. Remove two T15 screws (3) shown in FIGURE 1-56 on page 76, on opposite corners of the mounting plate.

 Elevator Motor

6. Rotate motor assembly toward tensioner to disengage drive belt.
7. Lift the motor assembly away from the mounting area.

Elevator Motor Assembly: Replacement
1. Position the replacement motor assembly with motor pulley behind drive belt.
2. Rotate motor assembly away from tensioner to engage drive belt and position mounting plate on locator pins in the mounting area.
3. Insert and tighten the two T15 mounting plate screws.
4. Loosen the T15 tension assembly screw a couple of turns to apply tension to the drive belt, then retighten the tension assembly screw.
5. Connect the motor assembly cable to the bulkhead connector.
6. Close the library front door.

7. Perform “Elevator Motor Verification” on page 276.
8. If the entire library is offline, ask the operator to bring it back online to the host.
    a. If the left elevator is offline to StorageTek Library Console, ask the operator to bring it online.
    b. If the right elevator is offline to StorageTek Library Console, ask the operator to bring it online. Then ask the operator to bring the CAPs online to the host.

- WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?: Verify functionality of elevator CAP motor and bring library back online as needed.
