FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: An Oracle Server X7-2L Temperature Sensor needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
If the system is still up and functioning, customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS. Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system.
A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Prepare the server for service.
- Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies.
- Extend the server to the maintenance position in the rack.
- Attach an anti-static wrist strap.
- Remove the server top cover.
2. Remove the Fan Modules and Fan Tray:
- For each of the fan modules using your forefinger and thumb, lift the fan module straight up and out of the chassis and set them aside on an antistatic mat.
- With all fan modules removed, using a Torx T25 screwdriver, loosen the three spring-mounted screws that secure the fan tray to the server chassis.
- Lift the fan tray from the server and set aside on an antistatic mat.
3.Remove the Temperature Sensor:
- Disconnect the temperature sensor cable from the disk backplane.
- Remove the three No. 2 Phillips screws that secure the FIM cable and Temp Sensor Access cover to the chassis.
- Lift up and remove the FIM cable and Temp Sensor Access cover from the FIM cable and Temp Sensor Access cover slot. Set aside the FIM cable and Temp Sensor Access cover.
- Remove the temperature sensor by carefully pulling the sensor cable rearward and through the cable trough along the left side of the chassis. Then lift the temperature sensor from the chassis.
3. Install the replacement Temperature Sensor:
- Install the temperature sensor by carefully inserting the sensor-end of the cable through the rear opening of the cable trough. Then pull the cable through the opening and install it into the cable trough along the left side of the chassis.
- Install the FIM cable and Temp Sensor Access cover to the chassis by inserting it into the FIM cable and Temp Sensor Access cover slot.
- Install the three No. 2 Phillips screws to secure the FIM cable and Temp Sensor Access cover to the chassis.
- Reconnect the temperature sensor cable to the disk backplane.
3. Replace the Fan Modules and Fan Tray:
- Lower the fan tray into the server.
- Using a Torx T25 screwdriver, tighten the three spring-mounted screws that secure the fan tray to the server chassis.
- Install each of the fan modules into the server. The fan modules are keyed to ensure that they are installed in the correct orientation.
- Press down on each fan module to fully seat the fan module.
4. Return the Server to operation
- Install the server top cover.
- Remove any anti-static measures that were used.
- Return the server to it's normal operating position within the rack.
- Re-install the AC power cords and any data cables that were removed but not yet replaced.
