FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: An Oracle Server X7-2 Front Indicator Module needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

If the system is still up and functioning, customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS.  Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system.

A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Prepare the server for service.

  1. Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies.
  2. Extend the server to the maintenance position in the rack.
  3. Attach an anti-static wrist strap.

2. Remove the Front Indicator Module:

  1. Using a Philips screwdriver, remove the two screws that secure the front indicator module (FIM) assembly to the server chassis. One of the screws is located on the top of the chassis and the other is on the side of the chassis directly behind the FIM.
  2. Carefully slide the FIM assembly toward the front of the server to remove it from the chassis.
  3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws that secure the plastic temperature sensor housing to the FIM assembly, and then detach the housing from the FIM assembly.  Note - You do not need to remove the temperature sensor from the housing.
  4. Disconnect the FIM cable from the FIM assembly and set the FIM assembly aside.

3. Install the replacement Front Indicator Module:

  1. Unpack the replacement FIM and place it on an antistatic mat.
  2. If not installed, install the FIM cable through the plastic temperature sensor housing.
  3. Connect the FIM cable to the replacement FIM assembly
  4. Using a Phillips screwdriver, tighten the two screws to secure the temperature sensor housing to the FIM assembly.
  5. Carefully insert the FIM assembly into the front panel of the server chassis.
  6. Install and tighten the two Phillips screws to secure the FIM assembly to the server chassis.

4. Return the Server to operation

  1. Remove any anti-static measures that were used.
  2. Return the server to it's normal operating position within the rack.
  3. Re-install the AC power cords and any data cables that were removed but not yet replaced.
