FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: An Oracle Server X7-2L Fan Module needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A fan module replacement does not require the system to be powered down. However when "hot replacing" a fan module with the system powered on the replacement must be done within 20 seconds to maintain adequate cooling within the system. Make sure that the replacement fan module is readily available and removed from it's packaging before starting this process.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Prepare the server for service.

  1. Extend the server to the maintenance position in the rack.
  2. Remove the top cover.

2. Identify the faulty fan module. Each fan module has a fan status indicator (LED) that is located next to the module. If the LED is amber, the fan module has failed.

3. Using your forefinger and thumb, lift the fan module straight up and out of the chassis and set it aside on an antistatic mat.

4. Install the replacement fan module into the server. The fan modules are keyed to ensure that they are installed in the correct orientation.

5. Press down on the fan module to fully seat the fan module.

6. Verify that the fan module fault indicator (LED) on the replacement fan module is not illuminated.

7. Return the Server to operation

  1. Replace the top cover
  2. Remove any anti-static measures that were used.
  3. Return the server to it's normal operating position within the rack.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Confirm that the replaced fan module is no longer reporting as failed.
