Information in this document applies to any platform.

Customer informed by IBM that they are doing a "Periodic Electrical Inspection & Testing".

This means the AC/DC power will be shut down for SL3000 Library.

Goal

How to turn off and on the Library remotely.
Is it possible to turn off remotely?

Solution

You may not be able to Power DOWN the library remotely by using SL console. Manual intervention is needed to perform the maintenance activity and to power DOWN the library.

Refer to the following steps to bring the library offline through SL console application and then power off the library by pressing power switch off and Power ON manually to bring the library back online.

Procedure to shut down SL3000 tape library for maintenance :
=================================================

1. Make the ROBOTS offline from the SL console.
    Procedure to make the ROBOTs offline.
        Tools ==> System Detail ==> Expand the ROBOTs folder, Transition Request : select Take OFFLINE and Apply.

2. Make the SL3000 Tape Library offline from the SL console,
    Procedure to make the Library offline,
        Tools ==> System Detail ==> Select " Library " and on the right side select "Status and under status "Click General, Transition Request : select Take OFFLINE and Apply.

3. If the library is managed with ACSLS, bring the ACSLS server DOWN.

4. Stop all the backup jobs scheduled.

5. Rear side of the library find the " Power switch " and Switch off the power.

6. Remove the power cable.

 

Once the Maintenance activity is done, go through the following steps to bring the library back online :

1. Re-seat the power cables.

2. Power ON the library by pressing the power switch.

3. The library starts initializing and perform audit.

4. Once the library comes back online, bring the ACSLS back up.

5. Start the backup application services.
