Goal

How to address issue seen when upgrade fails with error in logs showing ERROR: Unable to locate /usr/TKLC/plat/etc/platform_revision

The issue is also accompanied by the command "getPlatRev" showing no output.

Solution

It was confirmed that /usr/TKLC/plat/etc/platform_revision does in fact exist and the permissions were correct (as compared to working system).

The root cause of the issue was that there was an extra empty line at the end of the file /usr/TKLC/plat/etc/platform_revision. If there is any issue with this file and the system is not able to read it the error "unable to locate" is provided.

During upgrade this file can sometimes need to be edited to remove the "UNKNOWN" value to prepare the system for another upgrade attempt. As this editing is often done via webex to various remote locations (involving keyboard mapping issues) care must be taken to not inadvertently add unwanted characters (e.g., in this case an extra empty line).

When the extra line at the end of the file was removed the getPlatRev worked as expected and the upgrade completed successfully.
