Solution

We recommend executing the procedures below, starting with procedure #1 and if the issue is resolved, procedure #2 is not necessary. If the issue is not resolved by procedure #1, proceed to procedure #2.

Procedure 1 - Execute a MASP switch over

1) Determine the standby/active MASP and perform the steps listed below.

• Make sure there is no MO disk inserted.
• rept-stat-db
• Run following on standby MASP
• init-card:loc=

2) Wait for system to come back to DUPLEX mode

• When system is back to DUPLEX mode;
• Run following command on the active MASP
• init-card:loc=

3) Wait for system to come back to DUPLEX mode. and then try the format copy-gpl command again.

• Insert MO disk and wait a minute for it to spin up.
• copy-gpl

Procedure 2 - Using a new MO disk

Purchase a new MO disk and then execute the steps listed below.

(1) Insert new MO cartridge into MDAL and wait for one minute.

(2) Issue the following command to turn measurement collection off.
  To turn measurements off enter:
  • chg-meas:collect=off

(3) Issue the following commands to format and copy the current release of GPL’s to the MO cartridge.
  • format-disk:type=system:force=yes:low=yes
  • copy-gpl
 Note: this can take up to 15 minutes (30 minutes max).

(4) When completed, issue the below command:
  • rept-stat-db
  The database level for the MO in the MDAL slot 1117 should show a base level of 1 if a previous database has not been copied to it.

(5) Issue the following command to turn measurement collection back on.
  To turn measurements on after format is complete:
  • chg-meas:collect=on
  Ensure measurements are turned on enter the below command:
  • rtrv-meas-sched

Example of output is below:

(6) You can now use the MO to backup the current release database, to do so enter the below commands making a backup to the fixed disk and then to the removable cartridge (MO disk).
  • chg-db:action=backup:dest=fixed
  • chg-db:action=backup:dest=remove

There are severity 1 troubles coming out that indicate both bad MO disks and bad hardware (MDAL), see below.

Please try to format a new or a known good MO disk using the procedure listed below and retry to copy the GPL's to the newly formatted MO disk.

Steps to format a previous release MO Cartridge:

(1) Insert previous release MO cartridge into MDAL and wait for one minute.

(2) Issue the following command to turn measurement collection off.
  To turn measurements off enter:
  • chg-meas:collect=off

(3) Issue the following commands to format and copy the current release of GPL’s to the MO cartridge.
  • format-disk:type=system:force=yes:low=no
  • copy-gpl
  Note: this can take up to 15 minutes (30 minutes max).

(4) When completed, issue the below command:
  • rept-stat-db
  The database level for the MO in the MDAL slot 1117 should show a base level of 1 if a previous database has not been copied to it.
