Goal

SL150E - How To Correctly Cable Expansion Modules on a SL150E (Extended) Library

Solution

The SL150E can only be purchased as a new library after it releases on August 16, 2017.  There will be no upgrade options for current customers to upgrade their current SL150 libraries to a 15 module SL150E library due to the older hardware not supporting the extra 5 modules.

Below is a screen shot from the quick start guide for the SL150E that shows how the fully configured SL150E with 15 modules (Base Module + 14 Expansion Modules) needs to be properly cabled for the library to see all 15 modules.

The screen shot shows the following:

  • Each of the 14 Expansion modules has a KLE2 card which has 2 USB ports.  The left USB port is the "Input" port and the right USB port is the "Output" port
  • Modules 2 - 5 (the first 4 Expansion modules) are connected to ports 2 - 5 on the USB hub on the robot and the "Output" ports are not used
  • Modules 6 - 10 (Expansion modules 5 - 9) are connected to ports 6 - 10 on the USB hub on the robot and then the "Output" ports are used to go down to modules 11 - 15
    • The "Output" port on Module 6 needs to be connected to the "Input" port on Module 11
    • The "Output" port on Module 7 needs to be connected to the "Input" port on Module 12
    • The "Output" port on Module 8 needs to be connected to the "Input" port on Module 13
    • The "Output" port on Module 9 needs to be connected to the "Input" port on Module 14
    • The "Output" port on Module 10 needs to be connected to the "Input" port on Module 15
  • The "Output" ports on Modules 11 - 15 (Expansion modules 10 - 14) are not use
