Goal
Perform a GFR NO-Replace of a VCF card.
Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: Sun Storagetek VSM or V2X, including DOP
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 4
- TIME ESTIMATE: 120 minutes
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: The VCF card has failed and needs to be brought back into service.
- EXCEPTIONS: Exceptions to the plan to GFR NO-replace the VCF card are as follows:
1. If the same VCF card being called out has already been GFR NO-replaced within the past 3 months.
2. If a VCF4 card failed a GFR with FSC 75A0 or failed IML diagnostics with FSC F880 as explained in MOS Doc ID 1461811.1.
3. One or both SFPs on the VCF card show a high volume of TX (Transmit- FSC 8954) or RX (Receive - FSC 8953) errors in the fipout.txt file.
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : All CHPIDs assigned to this VCF card must be varied offline.
- WHAT ACTIONS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Using LOP (Local Op Panel):
1. From the main menu, select F10 Log On
2. Enter the CSE password (default is b0022222)
3. Select F7 'Guided FRU Replacement Menu'
4. Select F4 'List Composite Failure'
5. Select appropriate CFE ID and follow the on screen step-by-step instructions for
replacing the FRU with this EXCEPTION - when the screen instructs the user to replace the card perform these steps instead:
A. Physically unplug the VCF card.
B. Wait 30 seconds.
C. Physically reseat the same card back into the slot.
D. Continue with the instructions on the screen.
- Using DOP (Detached Op Panel):
1. From the main menu log on with the CSE password (default is b0022222)
2. Select 'Guided FRU Replacement'
3. Select 'List Composite Failure Events (CFE)'
4. Select appropriate CFE ID
5. Select 'GFR Selected FRU' and follow on screen step-by-step instructions to
replace the FRU with this EXCEPTION - when the screen instructs the user to replace the card perform these steps instead:
A. Physically unplug the VCF card.
B. Wait 30 seconds.
C. Physically reseat the same card back into the slot.
D. Continue with the instructions on the screen.
- CONFIRM THE FIX BY:
Verify the VCF card is no longer fenced and Subsystem Availability is at 100%. Verify the card is working for the customer.
If the original VCF card failed the GFR NO-replace diagnostics then update the task accordingly. If the VCF card failed the GFR NO-replace diagnostics a new field task to actually replace the failed VCF card will be needed.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Vary the CHPIDs back online
