Solution

As root user,

service ntpd stop # before running the actual command, stop the ntpd service

service ntpd status #Make sure the ntpd service is stopped
ntpdate ntpserver1 # this will reset the local server time (instead of ntpserver1 you can type NTP IP info)
service ntpd start # start the service ntpd again after time is reset

service ntpd status #Make sure the ntpd service is running
