Goal

Starting from Appliance Release OS 8., the ZFS-SA will allow SSD drives to be assigned to a ZFS pool as read cache, or log device (write cache) based on drive size.

Solution

200GB SSD drives can only be used as write cache (LOG) devices.

1,6TB and 3.2TB drives can only be used as read cache (CACHE) or as meta devices (META) for deduplication.

It is not possible to "choose" the use for the SSD's, it will be defined by their size. Using the SSD drives as data disks combined with regular disks is not supported.

The only way to use SSD drives as data disks is by setting up an All Flash Pool (AFP).
