Goal

How to check the current Network Port Speed on HBC and renegotiate the link.

THE CUSTOMER IS UPDATING PORT SPEEDS ON SWITCH AND NEEDS TO RENEGOTIATE LINK / CHECK CURRENT SPEED

Solution

The system will auto negotiate the link when card cage comes up. To check the current status collect a Log Snapshot.

In Log Snapshot open up the hbc file > log > syslog.0
Search the file view eth0 for a message showing the link up speed: eth0: IBM EMAC: link up, 100 Mbps Full Duplex, auto-negotiation complete.

Example of message found: Aug 21 09:53:29 (none) kernel: eth0: IBM EMAC: link up, 100 Mbps Full Duplex, auto-negotiation complete.

If the speed is not reflecting the current speed configured on the switch a reboot of the library will be required.

USE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING REBOOT PROCEDURES.

There are 2 ways you can reset the card cage. The first is vary the library offline to the host and reboot the library from SLC or the SL Console using the following procedure:

- SL3000/SL8500 - How to Reboot a Device or Component Using SL Console (Doc ID 1013648.1)

- Or you can reboot the card cage using the procedure outline in Knowledge Article - How to Bring Back BOTs, Elevators, CAPs That Disappear or Show Red After a Power Cycle of the Card Cage (Doc ID 1481296.1)
