Information in this document applies to any platform.

I am interested to know an average time it takes since the SL3000 receives a load command until the actual media is loaded in the drive. I am aware that the actual time it takes for a drive to load a media depends on the drive, but I am more interested in the overall operation that also includes: the time the robot moves into the library, finds the media, grabs the media, travels back to the drive and the media is loaded in the drive.

SL3000 - How Long Does It Take To Load Media Into The Tape Drive

Solution

The move time depends on several factors. Assuming all resources are available to do a move from a slot to a drive, it can take roughly 10 secs to 30 secs to complete this move. Of course this does not include drive load time. It is just placing a cartridge in the drive throat.

Drive load time will vary depending on the type of drive.
