Goal

How to Replace an Oracle ZS4-4 ZFS Storage Appliance Clustron2 Card with a Clustron3 Card.

Solution

CAP PROBLEM OVERVIEW:  Clustron2 Card failure replacement with Clustron3

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS: Clustron2 and Clustron3 cards are not compatible.

If a clustron2 card fails and a single clustron2 card replacement is not available, and a pair of clustron3 cards are available, both clustron2 cards must be changed for clustron3 cards.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance:  Minimum Fully Supported Version for Clustron3 HBA Support  =  2013.1.5.6   (OS8.5.6 - ak-2013.06.05.5.6)

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:  ZS4-4 ZFS Storage Appliance Training.

TIME ESTIMATE:   1.5 Hours

TASK COMPLEXITY:   3

PROBLEM OVERVIEW
What   : The Clustron card
Where : Chassis S/N:, Slot No. of the card/device to be inserted here by SR owner
Why    : The Clustron2 card has been reported failed or faulted by the appliance.

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

Clustron2 and Clustron3 cards are NOT compatible.

If a Clustron2 card fails and no Clustron2 spares are available, Clustron3 cards may be used as replacements.

The Clustron2 card shall be the first preference for replacement.  If you have a Clustron2 card failure, order ONE Clustron2 card for the faulty card replacement.

If you get a message from the part ordering system that the Clustron2 card is not available, then order TWO Clustron3 cards for the first time (and use these to replace the Clustron2 cards in BOTH heads).

If you already have Clustron3 card, please order ONE Clustron3 card.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

* Please gather and note down specific PCI replacement procedure for the model of the ZFS Storage you are working on before powering off both heads.

* Please see "References section" at the bottom of this document for online help links so an offline copy can be saved of the relevant procedure.

* Both of the appliance heads must be powered off for this task. The customer may have shut the node down but power may still be applied so check that it is safe to power off.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE:

1.  Locate the Clustron Card in head-A and head-B.

2.  Take ESD Precautions.

3.  Check the Clustron Card part number for the appropriate system in the System Handbook and re-confirm.

4.  Take note of order of Clustron cables ( Label each cable if needed to ensure they are cabled correctly after replacement ).

5.  Replace the Clustron cards in both heads as per instructions in the "Online Help Guide" under 'Maintenance - Hardware - PCI cards and Risers' ( for the specific platform ).

6.  Reconnect Clustron cables in original locations.

7.  Verify the replacement by powering on each head one at a time and checking the NAS head/node rejoins the cluster (customer may have to confirm this)

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Confirm there are no faults reported in the appliance BUI and Cluster is rejoined. "Mark Repaired" any prior faults related to Clustron card if required.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

PARTS NOTE:

Consult System handbook for appropriate model.
