Goal

 HP LTO - Removal / Replacement of HP/STK 1U Rackmount Media Tray.

Solution

 DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: Familiar with Storagetek/Oracle Tape products
- TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: It has been determined the StorageTek 1U Rackmount Media Tray is defective and requires replacement.
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:  Tray must be offline to the server.
- WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?:

Refer to the attached document for complete information and pictures.

Removal of the 1U Rackmount Media Tray:

1. Turn power off to the media tray with the front panel power button.

2.  Remove the cable support clip(s) at the back of the rack rail(s) on one or both sides of the media tray.

3. Unplug the AC power cord from the power cord connector from a grounded outlet.

4. Unplug the signal cable (SAS or SCSI) from the server into the signal connector(s) on the rear panel of the media tray.

5. Loosen the front panel thumbscrews.

6. Slide the unit fully out of the rack.

7. Retract the left and right rack rails at the front of the rack.

Installation of the 1U Rackmount Media Tray:

1. Extend the left and right rack rails from the front of the rack.
2. Align the rear of the component rails on the media tray with the front ends of the rack rails, then slide the unit fully into the rack.

CAUTION: Be sure to keep the media tray parallel to the floor when sliding the component rails into the rack rails.
               Tilting the media tray up or down could damage the rails.
NOTE: To remove the media tray from the rack, disconnect the cables from the back of the unit. Press the latches on each side (3) and pull the media tray from the rack (4). See Completing the installation (page 21) for the location of the latches.
3. Tighten the front panel thumbscrews.
4. If used, retract the stabilizing feet of the rack.
5. Plug the signal cable (SAS or SCSI) from the server into the signal connector(s) on the rear panel of the media tray.
6. Plug the AC power cord into the power cord connector, then into a grounded outlet.

8. Install the cable support clip(s) at the back of the rack rail(s) on one or both sides of the media tray.


- WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?: Bring drive(s) and tray online to the server.
