How to Replace an Operator Panel (OPNL) in a Fujitsu M12-2/M12-2S

Solution

CAP PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty M12 OPNL (Operator Panel)

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:

The engineer should be M12 trained

- TIME ESTIMATE: 60 Mins

- TASK COMPLEXITY:2

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty OPNL

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

The procedure for the replacement varies depending on the following maintenance types:

- Active/Cold maintenance
- Inactive/Cold maintenance
- System-Stopped/Cold maintenance

Please make sure the maintenance-target cabinet is in the correct state before beginning the physical replacement.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Precautions for OPNL replacement

Caution - Before you handle any components, be sure to wear a wrist strap to ground any
static electricity. If you perform this procedure without a wrist strap, individual components
or the overall system may be seriously damaged.

Remove all HDD/SSD units from the HDDBP. Replacing the OPNL without
removing the HDD/SSD units may damage those units.

When replacing the OPNL in the SPARC M12-2S, set the BB-ID of the OPNL after
replacement to the same value as that used before replacement.

Removing the OPNL

Before removing the OPNL, you need to remove the FANUs and FANBP.

1. Place the server main unit in the cold state.
Stop the power supply to the server main unit to place it in the cold state.

2. Remove the front cover.

Note - The serial number of the server main unit is printed on a label affixed on the front
cover. Store this cover such that it is not mixed up with the front covers of other SPARC M12 units.

3. Remove all the FANUs.

Remove all the FANUs mounted in the FANBP.

4. Remove the FANBP.
Loosen the three fixing screws, and remove the FANBP.

Removing the HDDBP

1. Loosen the three fixing screws of the HDDBP.

Note - When loosening the fixing screws, be careful not to damage the PCIe cables or radiator
cores with the screwdriver, which may come into contact with these components.

2. Remove the HDDBP.

Pull down the removal lever of the HDDBP toward you, and pull the HDDBP out while holding its handle.

Removing the OPNL

Note - If you are replacing the OPNL of the SPARC M12-2S, make a note of the set BB-ID value.

1. Remove the HDD/SSD units.
Remove all the HDD/SSD units mounted in the HDDBP. If any filler units are mounted, remove them too.

2. Pull up the removal lever of the OPNL.
Pull up the removal lever of the OPNL, and pull the OPNL out from the HDDBP.

3. Remove the OPNL.
Disconnect the connector that connects the HDDBP and OPNL. Disconnecting the connector completes the removal of the OPNL.

Note - Do not pull the connector cable that connects the HDDBP and OPNL. Pulling the
connector cable forcibly may break it, in which case the cable cannot be used normally.

Installing the OPNL

Note - If you are replacing the OPNL of the SPARC M12-2S, first set the BB-ID value that was noted earlier.

Note - In the case of the SPARC M12-2, you cannot set a BB-ID value for the OPNL.

1. Pull up the removal lever of the OPNL inside the HDDBP.

2. Connect the OPNL and HDDBP.

After connecting the OPNL and HDDBP via the connector, insert the OPNL into the HDDBP.

3. Secure the OPNL.
Secure the OPNL by pushing down the its removal lever inside the HDDBP.

4. Install the HDD/SSD and filler units.
Install the removed HDD/SDD and filler units.

Installing the HDDBP in the Chassis

1. Insert the HDDBP into the server main unit.
Fit the HDDBP to the positioning guide, and insert it into the server main unit.

Note - Before connecting the HDDBP to the connector of the CMU, confirm that the HDDBP
is fitted to the positioning guide and does not move left or right. Inserting the HDDBP when
it is not fitted to the positioning guide may damage the connector.

 2. Secure the HDDBP to the server main unit.

Return the removal lever of the HDDBP to the state it was in before the HDDBP was removed. Then, tighten the three fixing screws to secure the HDDBP.

Restoring the Server Main Unit

1. Install the FANBP.
Install the FANBP to the server main unit.

2. Mount the FANUs.
Mount the FANUs in the server main unit.

3. Install the front cover

4. Place the server main unit in the hot state.
Power on the server main unit to place it in the hot state. Install power cords to the PSUs.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

Confirm fault has been cleared.
