Goal

This note provides instructions for reimaging a BDA server in rescue mode to original factory ship network settings for 4.5 and lower base images.

The base image zip file for the base image patches contains an iso file. Using the iso file directly for CDROM imaging will image the server to original factory ship network settings for the base image.

The note uses an example of reimaging to the BDA BaseImage V4.5-4 iso to reimage to factory ship settings.

Solution

The solution is presented below:

1. Find the patch for the base image being used to reimage to ship settings via the Oracle Big Data Appliance Patch Set Master Note (Doc ID 1485745.1).

For example to reimage to the BDA V4.5-4 OL6 base image factory ship network settings use: Patch 25395169.

2. Download the patch to your laptop, unzip the file and locate the iso image.

a) Download the patch.
For example download p25395169_450_Linux-x86-64.zip to a laptop.

b) Unzip the file.

c) Locate the iso image.
For example p25395169_450_Linux-x86-64.zip contains BDABaseImage-ol6-4.5.0_RELEASE/BDABaseImage-ol6-4.5.0_RELEASE.iso.

Locate the iso image:

isolocation-1

3. Log into the ILOM of the affected node and navigate to the CD-ROM Image option:

a) From the ILOM navigate:
Remote Control > Redirection > Launch Remote Console > Devices > CD-ROM Image

Navigate to CD-ROM Image:

cdrom-reimage-2

b) Continue:

Locate the iso image in the pop-up e.g BDABaseImage-ol6-4.5.0_RELEASE.iso > Select: Open

Locate the iso image:

reimagepop-3

4. Start the reimage.

From the ILOM navigate: Host Management > Host Control > in the Next Boot Device dropdown select: CDROM > Save

Start the reimage from CDROM:

host-4

5. Power cycle the node to boot into the image.

From the ILOM navigate: Host Management > Power Control > Select Action: Power Cycle > Save

6. Monitor the boot progress.

Bring up another remote console to monitor the boot progress.

You can also watch the CDROM image status icon on the bottom right of the page. It says: "CD ROM image redirection is active" during reimage.

Monitor via the CDROM image status icon:

imageactive-5

7. When reimage to the original factory ship network settings for the base image is complete the network configuration is not set up. Running ifconfig will show that neither eth0 or bondib0 is present.  The node may not have a correct host name either.  There is an internal bug to track this issue.

Bug 25465900 - AFTER BASEIMAGE ISO REIMAGE TO SHIP NETWORK CONFIGURATION AND HOSTNAME

a) The network configuration is not setup.  Neither eth0 nor bondib0 is visible with ifconfig.

Reset the network configuration which will set up both eth0 and bondib0. Do so as follows:

# bdanetworktool all-except ilom=false deploy=/opt/oracle/bda/networkshipfull.json

Confirm ifconfig correctly shows eth0 and bondib0.

b) Run bdacheckhw and confirm it completes successfully. If any errors are reported correct them. When bdacheckhw is successful perform a second reboot. After this reboot verify the file:

/root/BDA_REBOOT_SUCCEEDED.

If the file does not exist, correct any errors found in /root/BDA_REBOOT_FAILED or /root/BDA_REBOOT_WARNINGS and reboot.

3) If the host node name is incorrect.
i. Try logging out and back into the server.
ii. If logging out/in does not show the correct hostname set it manually with:
# hostname <hostname>

For example:
# hostname bdanode03

Confirm the host name is set correctly after logging out and back into the server.

8. Once the reimage is completed and the root/BDA_REBOOT_SUCCEEDED is present you can continue on to install the Mammoth software on the rack.
