In this Document
Created from <SR 3-14055149832> Applies to:Sun StorageTek Auto Cartridge Sys Lib SW (ACSLS) - Version 8.0 and laterSun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version All Versions and later Sun StorageTek Enterprise Library Software (ELS) - Version 7.0 and later Information in this document applies to any platform. GoalQuickly eject or remove a large number of tape cartridges from an SL8500 library. For example, when there are 1000+ tapes earmarked for ejection. This document is relevant to SL8500 library, as well as the SL3000 library, when ACSLS or HSC/ELS is the library control software. SolutionThere are two different procedures to eject/remove tape cartridges from the SL8500 Tape Library. The quickest method is to open the library front door(s) and manually pull the tapes from the cells. Please note that opening the main access door of the library will offline the library to ACSLS or ELS/HSC and will affect tape operations if the library and jobs are active. Also note that this method will require a physical audit of the tape library. This physical audit will occur after the library door is closed. After that completes, an ACS/library audit is also required on the tape library management host (i.e, ACSLS or ELS/HSC). The ACS audit updates the tape library host's database/CDS to match the actual cartridge inventory of the library. Procedure 2: To enable jobs/production to run while tapes are being removed from the library, the process is different depending on whether ACSLS or HSC/ELS is the library control software. ACSLS: 1. Use the Eject command from the tape library host. This method will automatically eject the tape cartridges to a CAP door. No library audit is needed since the tape library and the ACSLS database will automatically sync up. 2. ACSLS has a utility that facilitates mass eject vaulting operation.
