Goal

This document provide consolidated procedures on how the add new NTP sources to OCUDR in Normal and Low Capacity deployment configurations. This provide steps using both "platcfg" and "Active NOAM GUI" to change (Add and Remove) NTP Server IP Addresses. Customers should ensure the NTP source IP addresses are available prior to using this procedure.

Solution

 OCUDR NTP Server Change Procedure

With the NTP changes, you may observe the alarm:

31235 |SW| Untrusted Time After Initialization

If the above alarm is still observed after NTP Server changes has been completed, please follow the steps below to clear the alarm on the respective Server:

As root user:
1. # prod.dbdown -i
2. # rm –f /var/TKLC/rundb/run/timestamp
3. # prod.start

NOTE: (The above steps would cause a switch over from Active NOAM/SOAM to Standby NOAM/SOAM.)

C-Class Normal Capacity Procedure Summary and Server Order:

A) Add New NTP Servers to NOAMs in "platcfg"

Primary Site Active NOAM
Primary Site Standby NOAM
DR Site NOAMs

B) Add New NTP Servers to TVOEs in "platcfg"

Primary Site TVOE Hosting Active SOAM.
Primary Site TVOE Hosting Standby SOAM.
DR Site TVOE's

C) Confirm NTP Server is TVOE XMI IP Address

Primary Site VM SOAMs and MPs
DR Site VM SOAMs and MPs

D) Delete Old NTP Servers in "platcfg"

E) Add and Delete NTP Servers from Primary Site Active NOAM GUI.

Procedure:

A) NOAMs "platcfg"

1. ssh into target Server as "admusr"
sudo su -
#su - platcfg

2. Navigate to Network Configuration -> NTP.
3. Select Edit, then “Add a New NTP Server.”
4. Enter the IP Address of the additional/new NTP Server.
5. Select OK.
6. Jump back to Step 3 if more NTP Servers need to be added.
Note: Oracle recommends 3-4 NTP Servers.

7. Select Exit.
8. Select Yes to restart NTP Service
9. Select Exit twice to leave platcfg.
10. Repeat Steps 1 - 9 for all NOAM Servers in the order listed above.

B) TVOEs "platcfg"

1. ssh into target Server as "admusr"
    sudo su -
    #su - platcfg

10. Repeat Steps 1 - 9 for all TVOE Servers in the order listed above.

C) SOAMs and MPs "platcfg"

NOTE: No changes to the NTP Server for the VM SOAMs and MPs should be needed.
(Only 1 NTP Server is to be installed on each VM SOAM and MP. The TVOE's XMI IP Address.)

Confirm the VM SOAM or MP has the TVOE's XMI Ip Address as the NTP Server.

1. As root user:
# ntpq -np
Example command output below:

[root@NOAM-2 ~]# ntpq -np
remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset jitter
==============================================================================
*10.152.117.22 10.20.102.252 4 u 41 1024 377 0.576 0.114 0.178

Confirm "remote" ip address is the TVOE XMI address.

Optional:
If NTP Server is not TVOE XMI Address follow steps 1-9 below:

1. ssh into target Server as "admusr"
    sudo su -
    #su - platcfg
2. Navigate to Network Configuration -> NTP.
3. Select Edit, then “Add a New NTP Server.”
4. Enter the IP Address of the TVOE XMI IP Address as the New NTP Server.
5. Select OK.
6. Select Exit.
7. Select Yes to restart NTP Service
8. Select Exit twice to leave platcfg.
9. Repeat Steps 1 - 8 for all SOAM and MP Servers in the order listed above.

D) Remove Old NTP Servers from "platcfg".

First confirm New NTP Servers have a "reach" value of (377) before removing Old NTP Servers.

1. As root user:
# ntpq -np

Example command output below:

[root@NOAM-2 ~]# ntpq -np
remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset jitter
==============================================================================

+10.20.15.205 10.20.102.252 2 u 145 1024 377 53.757 1.431 0.758

Note: May take several minutes for "reach" to obtain value of (377).

2. ssh into target Server as "admusr"
    sudo su -
    #su - platcfg
3. Navigate to Network Configuration -> NTP.
4. Select Edit, then “Delete an existing NTP Server
5. Highlight Old NTP Server, then press enter to remove.
6. Jump back to Step 5 if more Old NTP Servers need to be deleted.
7. Select Exit.
8. Select Yes to restart NTP Service
9. Select Exit twice to leave platcfg.
10. Repeat Steps 1 - 9 for all NOAM, TVOE, SOAM, and MP Servers with Old NTP Servers to delete.

E) Add and Delete NTP Servers from OCUDR Active NOAM GUI.

1. From a browser HTTP to Active NOAM GUI as "guiadmin"
2. Navigate to Main Menu: Configuration -> Servers.
3. Higlight Server to be configured, then press Edit.
4. Under NTP Servers: Press Add, then enter New NTP Server IP Address and press Apply.
5. Repeat step 4 for additional New NTP Servers to be added.
Note: NOAM Servers will have 3-4 NTP Servers. SOAM and MP Servers will have 1 NTP Server (TVOE XMI Address)

5. Delete Old NTP Servers, press Remove.
6. Repeat step 5 for additional Old NTP Servers to be deleted.

7. To Save configuration, press OK.
8. Repeat Steps 1 - 7 for all NOAM, SOAM and MP Servers.
