Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 2209448.1 : Fujitsu M10-1/M10-4/M10-4S Servers: Setinitinterimpermit Command
In this Document
Oracle Confidential PARTNER - Available to partners (SUN). Applies to:Fujitsu M10-4 - Version All Versions and laterFujitsu M10-1 - Version All Versions and later Fujitsu M10-4S - Version All Versions and later Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit) GoalDocument the use of the service/escalation mode command "setinitinterimpermit" for use with XCP2330 and above. setinitinterimpermit - Initializes the CPU Activation Interim Permit state so that Interim Permit can be re-enabled. This command can be used to evade core license check by system firmware. Therefore, repeated use of this command at the same customer should only be allowed with a good understanding why it is required. Consulting with the Account Technical Manager ( TAM ) is recommended when such a situation is identified.
SolutionUsage: setinitinterimpermit [[-q] -{y|n}] -p ppar_id -c counter setinitinterimpermit is a restricted-access command that initializes the CPU Activation Interim Permit (hereafter “Interim Permit”) state and makes Interim Permit available again for use. This may be required if Interim Permit has been used once and normal procedures fail to make Interim Permit available again. The setinitinterimpermit command can be executed on a system (SPARC M10-1 or SPARC M10-4) or a PPAR (SPARC M10-4S) where Interim Permit cannot be enabled. This situation can be checked by using the showinterimpermit(8) command. When Interim Permit cannot be enabled, showinterimpermit(8) will output the following message as Status: Interim Permit cannot be enabled again (until more Purchased CPU Activations are installed and Purchased cores are assigned to the PPAR)
After executing the setinitinterimpermit command, the Status will change to “Interim Permit is disabled." This shows that Interim Permit can be enabled again using setinterimpermit(8). This command can be executed only when in Service or Escalation mode. OPTIONS The following options are supported. -p ppar_id OPERANDS None EXTENDED DESCRIPTION None EXAMPLES Example 1 - Initialize the Interim Permit state, allowing Interim Permit to be re-enabled. XSCF> setinitinterimpermit -p 0 -c counter
Note: Interim Permit for the PPAR will be initialized. The state of Interim Permit will be changed to "Interim Permit is disabled". Continue? [y|n] :y Completed. Example 2 - The command fails with an error because Interim Permit for the specified PPAR is currently enabled. XSCF> setinitinterimpermit -p 1 -c counter
Note: Interim Permit for the PPAR will be initialized. The state of Interim Permit will be changed to "Interim Permit is disabled". Continue? [y|n] :y This operation cannot be executed because Interim Permit for the PPAR is currently enabled. Please disable Interim Permit using the setinterimpermit command. EXIT STATUS The following exit values are returned. 0 Indicates normal end.
