Goal

OpenHPI Daemon process stuck in IN_PROGRESS (Error discovering - retrying) while try to add or rediscover the enclosure

Discovery on an enclosure is done in two phases. PMAC discovers the hardware and then the software on each blade. Here PMAC is not getting through the initial hardware discovery.

Solution

Check the "openhpid" process status by following command on PMAC:

sudo ps -ef|grep openhpid

Restart the process to start over the rediscovery of the enclosure.

kill -9 <Process ID>

In some cased multiple restart attempts of the "openhpid" process may be needed.

The issue may re-appear after the PM&C server restart.

The below commands are to check the output of the openhpi process, as discovery takes place.

sudo as root (sudo su -)
su - pmacd -s /bin/bash
/usr/sbin/openhpid -c /etc/openhpi/openhpi.conf.4746 -p 4744 -s 0 -n -f /var/run/openhpi/openhpi.4744.pid
