Applies to:

SPARC M6-32 - Version All Versions and later
Oracle SuperCluster M7 Hardware - Version All Versions and later
Oracle Exadata Hardware - Version 11.2.3.1.1 and later
SPARC SuperCluster T4-4 - Version All Versions and later
Exadata Database Machine V2 - Version All Versions and later
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)
Oracle Solaris on x86-64 (64-bit)

Goal

This document provides the Solaris specific steps and remarks for installation and upgrading Oracle Database and Oracle Grid Infrastructure to 12.2.0.1 on Solaris x86-64 (Exadata) and Solaris SPARC (Oracle SuperCluster).

It is intended to be a supplement to <Note 2111010.1> 12.2 Grid Infrastructure and Database Upgrade steps for Exadata Database Machine running 11.2.0.3 and later on Oracle Linux

Solution

Note: Customers upgrading to 12.2.0.1 on Solaris are advised to start with the detailed instructions in <Note 2111010.1> 12.2 Grid Infrastructure and Database Upgrade steps for Exadata Database Machine running 11.2.0.3 and later on Oracle Linux and follow the links to appropriate sections in this document

This document provides additional instructions for upgrading Oracle Database and Oracle Grid Infrastructure from release 11.2.0.3 and later to 12.2.0.1 on Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle SuperCluster. Solaris Updates and additional IDRs are required before upgrading to Oracle Database 12.2.0.1 (12c) and Oracle Grid Infrastructure 12.2.0.1 (12c).

Solaris-specific software requirements and recommendations

Note: Customers running 11.2.0.3 are required to upgrade to 11.2.0.4 first before they proceed with 12.2 upgrade

Upgrade to the current recommended Solaris Version on Exadata

Update Solaris using MOS Note Upgrading to Solaris 11.3 on Solaris x86-64 Exadata Compute nodes <Note 2121725.1>

(root)# pkg list entire
NAME (PUBLISHER) VERSION IFO
entire 0.5.11-0.175.3.16.0.3.0 i--

Upgrade to the current recommended Solaris Version on Oracle SuperCluster

Install current recommended QFSDP <Note 1567979.1>

(root)# pkg list entire
NAME (PUBLISHER) VERSION IFO
entire (solaris) 0.5.11-0.175.3.16.0.3.0 i--

Install mandatory GI/RDBMS Patches

Install specific patches in GI/RDBMS_HOME <Note 2180188.1>

Solaris-specific guidelines for GI software installation prerequisite check failure

Perform the 12.2.0.1 Grid Infrastructure software installation and upgrade

On "Prerequisite Checks" screen, resolve any failed checks or warnings before continuing.

Ignore following Prereq Checks for GI HOME and RDBMS HOME as proper packages already exist on Exadata:

  • Package: make-0.5.11 - This is a prerequisite condition to test whether the package "make-0.5.11" is available on the system.

Expected Value
: make-0.5.11
Actual Value
: i386-null
Details:
-
PRVF-7533 : Proper version of package "make" is not found on node "scao06adm02" [Required = "make-0.5.11" ; Found = "i386-null"].
- Cause: Package does not meet the requirement.
- Action: Upgrade the package to meet the requirement.

(root)# pkg list |grep make
developer/build/make 0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.34.0 i--
  • Package: assembler-0.5.11 - This is a prerequisite condition to test whether the package "assembler-0.5.11" is available on the system.

Expected Value
: assembler-0.5.11
Actual Value
: i386-null
Details:
-
PRVF-7533 : Proper version of package "assembler" is not found on node "scao06adm02" [Required = "assembler-0.5.11" ; Found = "i386-null"].
- Cause: Package does not meet the requirement.
- Action: Upgrade the package to meet the requirement.

(root)# pkg list |grep assembler
developer/assembler 0.5.11-0.175.3.6.0.3.0 i--
  • Package: xcu4-0.5.11 - This is a prerequisite condition to test whether the package "xcu4-0.5.11" is available on the system.

Expected Value
: xcu4-0.5.11
Actual Value
: i386-null
Details:
-
PRVF-7533 : Proper version of package "xcu4" is not found on node "scao06adm02" [Required = "xcu4-0.5.11" ; Found = "i386-null"].
- Cause: Package does not meet the requirement.
- Action: Upgrade the package to meet the requirement.

(root)# pkg list |grep xcu
system/xopen/xcu4 0.5.11-0.175.3.7.0.2.0 i--

Ignore following Prereq Checks for GI HOME and RDBMS HOME on Oracle SuperCluster

  • Task resolv.conf Integrity - This task checks consistency of file /etc/resolv.conf file across nodes

PRVG-2016 : "search" and "domain" entries coexist in file "/etc/resolv.conf" on node "xxx"

Cause: Both ''search'' and ''domain'' entries were found in resolv.conf file on the node specified.

Action: Make sure that only one of these entries exist in file resolv.conf. It is preferable to use entry ''search'' in resolv.conf.

  • Solaris IPMP group fail-over consistency check - This is a check to verify the current selection of public and private network classifications is consistent with network interfaces in fail-over dependency of an IPMP group

Solaris-specific workaround required for DBUA

Note: When upgrading 12.1.0.2 to 12.2.0.1 <Bug 24674586> - DBUA will fail to startup instance in upgrade mode if _exafusion_enabled is set in MEMORY or spfile.

Before starting DBUA reset all _params in spfile and restart the database to reset all _params in MEMORY and spfile.
