Goal

Customer had question about alarms and traps when software is stopped.

Solution

I am not able to identify specific circumstances that would let to the system restarting the PDBA software as these occurrences have to be investigated to determine the cause. Typically, the system will restart the software due to some "unexpected" condition or event. However, if the software restarts, a record will appear in the pdba.err log and the exinit.log file. The "exinit" process is responsible for the stop and starting of all the application software. There is no specific alarm for the restart of software, but there are several alarms related to software failure and monitoring of the application process. These alarms raise UAMs to the Eagle as well as snmp traps to the EMS if SNMP is employed. Please review the Alarms and Maintenance Manual, Chapter 4 Alarms for more details.
