Goal

Will the /opt/exalytics/bin/exalytics_flashovsrepos.sh -script work on an Exalytics X5-4 server? If not, what are the steps to check or configure flash in OVS on X5-4?

Solution

Per internal, unpublished <Bug 22618897>, EXALYTICS R2: NEED TO PRESENT THE FLASH CARDS TO OVM TO ASSIGN TO EXALYTICS, you cannot use the exalytics_flashovsrepos.sh on an X5-4 (or X6-4) server. The command is not compatible with the nvme flash cards which are shipped with X5-4 and X6-4 servers. If you run the script, you will likely see an error like:

"No flash cards detected."

Instead, when using an Exalytics X5-4 server with OVM 3.3.3, you must follow the steps in the Exalytics Installation Guide, under Section 3.7.3. Additionally, related internal, unpublished bugs: <Bug 21918984> and <Bug 22247490> state that <Patch 22546910> and the readme steps, are also required.

If you are using an Exalytics X2-4, X3-4 or X4-4 server, you can continue to use the exalytics_flashovsrepos.sh -script to view or configure the flash and may refer to Section 3.7.1 in the Install Guide.
