Solution

Oracle Confidential PARTNER - Available to partners (SUN).
Reason: Only trained Oracle Engineer or Partner should access the serial console.

Applies to:

Sun Storage J4200 Array - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Sun Storage J4400 Array - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

This document explains how to connect to J4000 array's serial port and access the console in order to collect debug logs.

Solution

1. Connect to the serial management port of the J4200/J4400 using a DB9-RJ45 converter (P/N:530-3813).

The Serial Management port can be accessed by connecting any terminal emulation program. Connect to the Serial Management port with the following settings:

  • 115200 – Baud Rate
  • 8 – Bits
  • 1 – Stop Bit
  • None – Parity

2. Upon connection to the port – press return. This will respond with the “Alamo:>” or “Riverwalk:>” prompt.

3. At the prompt enter "arrayservice" as the password. You will now have access to the Serial Management port.

Note : No password will be asked for or prompted for but no commands will be found without entering the password. So, just type the password and enter.

4. Below are few important logs to capture.

  • syslog    - Lists event logs
  • status    - System hardware status
  • err_cnt  - Phy error count
  • disks      - Disk status

5. Type help for all available commands.

6. Type exit to come out of the session.

Example :

Once you connect to the serial port you will get "Alamo"(if J4200)/"Riverwalk" (if J4400) prompt.

Alamo:>arrayservice
Enter Service Console.
