Solution DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc). If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.
Note: A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.
Customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS to get the OpenBoot PROM prompt. Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system. Remove Memory DIMM 1. Prepare the server for service. a. Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies. Caution - Components inside the chassis might be hot. Use caution when servicing components inside the chassis.
2. Remove server top cover: a. Open the server top cover by pressing and holding down the top cover release button and then use the recessed area to slide the top cover toward the rear of the server (about 0.5 inches (12.7 mm)). 3. Open the front bezel. 4. Remove all Fan Modules. 5. Remove the Fan Tray. 6. Disconnect the disk backplane cables & rotate the Drive Cage to the service position. 7. Remove the USB cable from the PSU duct's channel & then remove the PSU duct. 8. Loosen the cables from the main air duct assembly. 9. Loosen the left thumb screw bracket, slide it forward to remove, & then remove the air duct. 10. Press the blue memory remind button (located on the motherboard between CMP1 DIMMs and the side of the chassis) to identify the DIMM(s) that need to be replaced. 11. Push down on the ejector tabs on each side of the DIMM until the DIMM is released. Caution - DIMMs and heat sinks on the motherboard may be hot.
12. Grasp the top corners of the faulty DIMM and lift it out of its slot. 13. Place the DIMM on an antistatic mat. 14. Repeat Step 10 through Step 13 for any other DIMM(s) you intend to remove.
1. Unpack the replacement DIMM(s) and place them on an antistatic mat. 2. Ensure that the ejector tabs on the connector that will receive the DIMM are in the open position. 3. Align the DIMM notch with the key in the connector. Caution - Ensure that the orientation is correct. The DIMM might be damaged if the orientation is reversed.
4. Push the DIMM into the connector until the ejector tabs lock the DIMM in place. Note - If the DIMM does not easily seat into the connector, check the DIMM’s orientation.
5. Repeat Step 2 through Step 4 until all new DIMMs are installed. 6. Place the main air duct assembly in position. 7. Place the left thumb screw bracket in position, slide it back, then tighten the thumb screw. 8. Fasten the disk cables to the Air Duct. 9. Install the PSU air duct & then route the USB cable in it's channel. 10. Rotate the Drive Card cage to the operational position & attach the cables to the disk backplane. 11. Install the Fan Tray. 12. Install all fan modules. 13. Close the front bezel. 14. Install the server top cover. Place the server top cover on the chassis and slide the top cover toward the front of the server (about 0.5 inches (12.7 mm)) until you hear the top cover release button lock into place. 15. Return the Server to operation. a. Remove any anti-static measures that were used. Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system: PARTS NOTE:
