SolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc). If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.
Note: A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS to get the OpenBoot PROM prompt. Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system. WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?: Remove eUSB Flash Thumb Drive Note - The eUSB flash thumb drive is mounted on the motherboard between CMP1 DIMMs and the side of the chassis.
1. Prepare the server for service. a. Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies. Caution - Components inside the chassis might be hot. Use caution when servicing components inside the chassis.
2. Remove server top cover: a. Open the server top cover by pressing and holding down the top cover release button and then use the recessed area to slide the top cover toward the rear of the server (about 0.5 inches (12.7 mm)). 3. Open the front bezel. 4. Remove all Fan Modules. 5. Remove the Fan Tray. 6. Disconnect the disk backplane cables & rotate the Drive Cage to the service position. 7. Remove the USB cable from the PSU duct's channel & then remove the PSU duct.
8. Loosen the cables from the main air duct assembly & then remove it. 9. Possibly remove DIMMs that may interfere with eUSB removal. 10. Remove the green screw that attaches the eUSB flash thumb drive to the motherboard. Caution - This screw is not a captive screw, so be careful not to drop it inside the server. Retain the screw to use with the new eUSB flash thumb drive.
Note - If the screw is too tight to remove by hand, use a Torx 10 driver to loosen it.
11. Lift the eUSB flash thumb drive up to disconnect it from the motherboard and remove it from the system. Install eUSB Flash Thumb Drive 1. Press the eUSB flash thumb drive into the socket on the motherboard. 2. Hand tighten the screw to secure the drive to the motherboard. Do not use a tool to tighten the screw further. 3. Install any DIMMs that were removed. 4. Take the main air duct assembly and place it over the top of the CPU's and DIMMs allowing the DIMMs to protrude through the open slots and the assembly to fit nicely between the chassis walls. Then secure the disk cables to it. 5. Install the PSU air duct & then route the USB cable in it's channel. 6. Rotate the Drive Case to the operational position & connect the cables to the disk backplane. 7. Install the Fan Tray. 8. Install all fan modules. 9. Shut the front Bezel. 10. Install the server top cover. Place the server top cover on the chassis and slide the top cover toward the front of the server (about 0.5 inches (12.7 mm)) until you hear the top cover release button lock into place. 11. Return the Server to operation. a. Remove any anti-static measures that were used.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system: 3. Run format (# format) under Solaris to verify that the eUSB device can be seen. 4. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
