Goal

How to determine the Primary RAID controller from the brick console.

Solution

From brick console, type 'shhm' (Show Hardware Mode)
And check both "Mode Flags" and  "Comp Mode Flags" in output:

FCRoot>shhm
Hardware Mode:

 Board Level          12 FC Gen2 650
 FPGA Version         F8 Ok
 GPIO Status         0000-00FD
 Brix Type           03 (FC)
 Start Mode           03 Normal
User Mode            00 No User Input
 Startup State       0F Fini
 Reset Src            00 Unknown
 Mode Flags           4C HeartBeat Comp_Detected mf_Online
 Comp Mode Flags     4F Slot_1 Primary HeartBeat Comp_Detected mf_Online

 Run Level           30 Normal
 Comp Run Level      30 Normal
 Token Flags         00 None
Data Segment Addr   A410-0004  Size   31457276.
Free Code Space       3824. bytes Below 1 MByte
 Pnet Status         Got Link.
 Jbod (01) TW (01) Slot (00) Boot (      4100.) Main (      4600.) FPGA (0B)

  HBs Received:          30477529.  Sync's lost:             0.
Total Missing:           957.  Current Missing:             0.
  Ignore Flag:                 0.  hbState:            0001_0000

The above example shows that this FC RAID Controller is the secondary because Primary flag is listed in "Comp Mode Flags" section which means "My companion is primary".

This is the other RC in same FC brick shows that this FC RAID Controller is the primary because Primary flag set in "Mode Flags" section which means "I am primary":

RAID>shhm
Hardware Mode:

 Board Level          12 FC Gen2 650
 FPGA Version         F8 Ok
 GPIO Status         0000-00FD
 Brix Type           03 (FC)
 Start Mode           03 Normal
User Mode            00 No User Input
 Startup State       0F Fini
 Reset Src            00 Unknown
 Mode Flags           4F Slot_1 Primary HeartBeat Comp_Detected mf_Online
 Comp Mode Flags     4C HeartBeat Comp_Detected mf_Online

 Run Level           30 Normal
 Comp Run Level      30 Normal
 Token Flags         01 Token
Data Segment Addr   A410-0004  Size   31457276.
Free Code Space       3824. bytes Below 1 MByte
 Pnet Status         Got Link.
 Jbod (01) TW (01) Slot (01) Boot (      4100.) Main (      4600.) FPGA (0B)

  HBs Received:          64308445.  Sync's lost:             1.
Total Missing:          3498.  Current Missing:             0.
  Ignore Flag:                 0.  hbState:            0001_0000

Here is example for SATA brick:

RAID>shhm
Hardware Mode:

Board Level 02 PBC2
FPGA Version 04 Ok
GPIO Status FF
Brix Type 01 (SataGen_1)
Start Mode 03 Normal
User Mode 00 No User Input
Startup State 0F Fini
Reset Src 04 Firmware
Mode Flags 4E Primary HeartBeat Comp_Detected mf_Online
Comp Mode Flags 4D Slot_1 HeartBeat Comp_Detected mf_Online
Run Level 30 Normal
Comp Run Level 30 Normal
Token Flags 00 None
Data Segment Addr A410-0004 Size 22085628.
Free Code Space 25524. bytes Below 1 MByte
HBs Received: 63476746. Sync's lost: 1.
Total Missing: 28299. Current Missing: 0.
Ignore Flag: 0. hbState: 0001_0000

The above example shows that this SATA RAID Controller is the primary because Primary flag set in "Mode Flags" section which means "I am primary".

This is the companion RAID controller in same brick which says it's companion is the primary:

RAID>shhm
Hardware Mode:

Board Level 02 PBC2
FPGA Version 04 Ok
GPIO Status FF
Brix Type 01 (SataGen_1)
Start Mode 03 Normal
User Mode 00 No User Input
Startup State 0F Fini
Reset Src 04 Firmware
Mode Flags 4D Slot_1 HeartBeat Comp_Detected mf_Online
Comp Mode Flags 4E Primary HeartBeat Comp_Detected mf_Online
Run Level 30 Normal
Comp Run Level 30 Normal
Token Flags 01 Token
Data Segment Addr A410-0004 Size 22085628.
Free Code Space 25524. bytes Below 1 MByte
HBs Received: 63476269. Sync's lost: 0.
Total Missing: 28075. Current Missing: 0.
Ignore Flag: 0. hbState: 0001_0000
