DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc). If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return FRU just as the new FRU was packaged, to avoid any damages during shipping.
Note: A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.
Customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS to get the OpenBoot PROM prompt. Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system. WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: Remove Left LED Indicator Module 1. Prepare the server for service. a. Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies. Caution - Components inside the chassis might be hot. Use caution when servicing components inside the chassis.
2. Remove server top cover: a. Open the server top cover by pressing and holding down the top cover release button and then use the recessed area to slide the top cover toward the rear of the server (about 0.5 inches (12.7 mm)). 3. Depending on your server's storage drive configuration, do one of the following: a. If your server is configured with twelve 3.5-inch storage drives or twenty-four 2.5-inch storage drives, perform the following procedures: 1. Remove the server fan assembly door: a. If your system is configured with twelve 3.5-inch storage drives, remove the two screws on each side of the chassis and the three screws on top of the chassis. b. If your server is configured with eight 2.5-inch storage drives, remove the server disk cage cover: 1. Using a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver, remove the twelve screws (three on each top side of the chassis, and three on each side of the chassis) that secure the disk cage cover. c. Remove the four remaining No. 2 Phillips screws (two on each side of the chassis) that secure the disk cage assembly to the server chassis. 4. Remove the fan modules from the server. 5. Disconnect all cables from the front disk backplane. 6. Disconnect the left LED indicator module cable and the right LED/USB indicator module cable from the motherboard. 7. Slide the disk cage assembly forward, and then gently lift the disk cage assembly from the chassis. 8. Remove the left LED indicator module: a. If necessary, use a piece of capping tape to secure the cable to the side of the disk cage assembly. 3. Insert and tighten the two No. 2 Phillips screws to secure the LED indicator module to the server front panel. 4. Gently lift the disk cage assembly and set it into the server chassis. Note - Slightly push the disk cage assembly into the server chassis to ensure that the disk cage screw holes are correctly aligned with the server chassis. Also ensure the mushroom rivets and the square teeth on the bottom edge of the chassis are intertwined with the disk cage. Be careful to not pinch the left and right LED cables when inserting the cage.
5. Reconnect the left LED indicator module cable and the right LED/USB indicator module cable to the motherboard. 6. Reconnect all cables to the front disk backplane. 7. Install the fan modules in the server: a. The fan modules are keyed to ensure that they are installed in the correct orientation. 8. Depending on your server's storage drive configuration, do one of the following: a. If your server is configured with twelve 3.5-inch storage drives or twenty-four 2.5-inch storage drives, perform the following procedures: 1. Install the four No. 2 Phillips screws (two on each side of the chassis) that secure the disk cage assembly to the server chassis. a. Place the fan assembly door on the chassis and slightly over the fan assembly. 1. If your system is configured with twelve 3.5-inch storage drives, install and tighten the two screws on each side of the chassis and the three screws on top of the chassis. b. If your server is configured with eight 2.5-inch storage drives, install the server disk cage cover: 1. Place the disk cage cover on the chassis. 9. Install the server top cover and close the fan door: a. Close the fan door by swinging the door down to the closed position and hearing the latches latch.
