DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS PROBLEM OVERVIEW: SPARC S7-2L (between the Internal SAS HBA and the Disk Backplane) Replacement WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc). If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return FRU just as the new FRU was packaged, to avoid any damages during shipping.
Note: A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.
Customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS to get the OpenBoot PROM prompt. Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system. WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: Remove Internal SAS Cables (between the Internal SAS HBA and the Disk Backplane) 1. Prepare the server for service. a. Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies. Caution - Components inside the chassis might be hot. Use caution when servicing components inside the chassis.
2. Remove the top cover and open the fan door. 3.Remove clear plastic air duct assembly cover. 4. Remove all of the server fan modules. 6. Disconnect the SAS cables from the internal host bus adapter (HBA) located in PCIe slot 7: a. Disconnect the SAS storage drive (HDD) cables from the internal HBA card installed in PCIe slot 7. This can be done by releasing the connector catch located where the SAS cable plugs into the HBA. Install Internal SAS Cables (between the Internal SAS HBA and the Disk Backplane) 1. Carefully guide SAS cables (HBA end) between the fan module and side of chassis and through the cable hole in the mid-wall. 2. Install the SAS cables into the disk backplane. 3. Install all of the server fan modules. 4. Reconnect the SAS cables to the internal HBA card making sure they are latched in securely. 5. Take the clear plastic air duct assembly and place it over the top of the CPU's and DIMMs allowing the DIMMs to protrude through the open slots and the assembly to fit nicely between the chassis walls, power supply metal casing and mid-wall. 6. Install the server top cover and close the fan door: a. Close the fan door by swinging the door down to the closed position and hearing the latches latch. 12. Return the Server to operation. a. Remove any anti-static measures that were used.
How to verify the Internal SAS HBA is working properly 1. "start /SYS" and bring system to ok> prompt and perform a "probe-scsi-all" to make sure all internal SAS disks are seen.
