Goal
SL3000 - How to Remove and Replace a PUN Card.
Solution
The PUN card is located within the electronics module assembly for a base module. It monitors the library’s safety interlocks. Because it connects to the HBCR controller card and the PUM motherboard card, you will have to take down the entire library to replace it.
Refer to the SL3000 Service Manual for complete instructions/pictures/warnings. http://amomv0115.us.oracle.com/archive/cd_ns/E22211_16/index.html
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: Be familiar with the Service and Maintenance of SL3000 library
TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 2
FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: PUN card has been determined to be defective and needs replacement.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: This is a disruptive process. The library will need to stop work and be taken offline.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:
Caution – ESD hazard: All circuit cards within the electronics module assembly are ESD sensitive. Follow the ESD procedures in the SL3000 Safety and Compliance Guide.
To remove the PUN card:
1. Ask the operator to take the library offline.
2. Press the electronics module assembly power switch to the OFF position. If you have the redundant power feature, also turn OFF the second power switch.
3. Turn the PDU circuit breaker to the OFF position (if you have a 2N configuration, turn off both PDU circuit breakers).
4. If your library contains a drive expansion module, turn the PDU circuit breaker to the OFF position (if you have a 2N configuration, turn off both PDU circuit breakers).
5. Loosen the two green thumb screws (1) shown in FIGURE 1-53 on page 82 on the electronics module assembly cover plate.
6. Tilt the cover plate at the top and lift out the tray.
PUN Replacement
To replace a PUN card:
1. Remove the new PUN card from its antistatic wrapper.
2. Insert the new card, mating P208 of this card with the PUM card.
3. Insert and tighten the two T15 card bracket mounting screws.
4. Refer back to TABLE 1-8 and re-connect the cables:
5. Replace the cover to the electronics module assembly.
6. In the base module, turn the PDU circuit breaker to the ON position (if you have a 2N configuration, turn ON both PDU circuit breakers).
7. Press the electronics module assembly power switch to the ON position.
8. If your library contains a drive expansion module, turn the PDU circuit breaker to the ON position (if you have a 2N configuration, turn ON both PDU circuit breakers).
9. Verify that the library initializes.
10. After the library completes its initialization, Ask the operator to bring the library online.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:
After the library completes its initialization, Ask the operator to bring the library online.
