Goal

How to test drive dump collection on SDP2

Solution

You will need SLC, PUTTY & MDVOP for this process to work and a tape you can use to load/unload (no writing will be done)

This will either need to be done via Webex or the FE will need to be onsite.

1. login to the library via SLC

SLC can be downloaded from the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud repository

See SL500/SL3000/SL8500 - How to Download the SLConsole (SLC) (Doc ID 1511569.1)

Login to SLC Picture

2. login to the SDP2server via mdvop client tool (Please reference the SDP2 Installation guide in 1942540.1)

(CSE Version has been used for this test, this does work with Sysadmin version also)

Connect to Server

Launch connection

Mdvop Front End

3. login to the SDP2server via putty as sdp2admin How To Restart SDP2 Services (Doc ID 2014464.1)

Putty login to sdp2admin

4. Locate the drive you will be testing via SLC.

Drive 1.1.3.1.1 selected

5. Locate the Tape you will be using (move this to the CAP or system slots) 2093578.1

We will use Tape LAB013T2 for this example.

6. Click on the drive you will be testing in MDvop

Connected to T10KD Drive

7. Use RecvrMove to move the tape from the Cap or system slot to the drive.

Move tape to drive

8. Wait for the drive to load in MDVOP

Tape Loading in MDVOP

Tape loaded in MDVOP

9. Click unload drive from MDVOP

Unload drive

Unloading drive in MDVOP

10. Wait for this to complete.

Drive unloaded in MDVOP

11. Use SLC RecvrMove to move the tape from the drive mouth to the system slot again.

Tape unloaded in SLC

12. Monitor the MDVOPserver.err file in /opt/Oracle/MdvopServer/logs to see the drive unload then look to the /home/sdp2admin/.mdvop/transcripts/observer_(Drive ip).0.txt file to see the log collection.  The file will write the logs to the following location once completed /home/sdp2admin/.mdvop/vop_logs/T10000/<serial number of drive>/date

13. The log will be saved on the sdp2server for future log collections.
